Developer Platform & Technical Program Leader · SoFi

For two decades I've built and led platform products and operating models that turn developer friction into engineering leverage. I lead complex, cross-functional developer-platform and infrastructure portfolios — translating fragmented problems into clear product strategy, scalable mechanisms, and roadmaps that endure. My focus is simple: create the platforms, paved paths, and operating systems that help engineering organizations move faster, operate safer, and scale without adding friction.

service history

5 deployments
  1. Apr 2025 — presentlive
Director, Developer Platforms — Product & TPM @ SoFi

End-to-end ownership of the what, why, when & who — I lead both the product and technical-program-management org for the developer platform across a 1,000+ engineer org: strategy & priorities (what/why) and sequencing, delivery & ownership (when/who). Scope spans internal platforms, developer productivity, AI-assisted SDLC, testing infrastructure, deployment, and cloud economics.

  2. 2020 — 2025shipped
Product Leader, Developer Productivity @ PayPal

Owned developer-platform strategy for 10,000+ developers. Led a fully compliant standardization of the SDLC across PayPal, Venmo, Braintree & Zettle — scaling releases from 11K to 27K, establishing hands-free automated SDLC for 65% of releases (+20% productivity), and building a developer-champion program.

  3. Oct 2016 — Apr 2020shipped
Sr. Manager, Product Management — Developer SDLC @ PayPal

Redesigned the test & release ecosystem: −45% test cycle time (7 days → <4), +27% release velocity, and 50–75% faster deploys (8 hrs → 2 for complex changes). Led 5 PMs modernizing the end-to-end engineering toolchain.

  4. Oct 2014 — Oct 2016shipped
Member of Technical Staff 2 @ PayPal

Cut checkout drop rate 9%. Drove strategic integrations with Uber and Alibaba, wallet tokenization for closed-loop transactions, guest checkout for net-new actives, and Buy-Now-Pay-Later at checkout.

  5. Jan 2004 — Oct 2014migrated
Software Engineer 3 → Member of Technical Staff 1 @ PayPal

Where it started — a decade as a hands-on engineer, climbing from SWE3 to MTS1. Broke the payments monolith into microservices and shaved ~700ms across checkout, improving the payment endpoint for Uber and Google integrations.

The outcome everything serves — not velocity, not tooling: more valuable software change per engineer, with less friction, risk and waste. Put plainly, my job is to increase the organization's capacity to create and safely absorb change.

books I go back to
  • The Goal

    Eliyahu M. Goldratt

Theory of Constraints — find the one bottleneck, elevate it, repeat. The lens behind 'absorb capacity' and how I think about developer velocity.

  • Team Topologies

    Skelton & Pais

Org-as-architecture — still a spot-read; the lens for who should own which layer.

  • Thinking in Systems

    Donella Meadows

Feedback loops explain most organizational behavior — I keep coming back to it.

  • An Elegant Puzzle

    Will Larson

Currently working through it — systems for scaling engineering orgs, not heroics.
